I like mixed, though mostly for the sake of simplicity - I'm a n00b and haven't gotten the knack of the filled ones yet.

I've never made them but am itching to try it today! Will be making it with a spicy tuna and mayo mix in the middle. Ala BentoTV! :-)

So far, plain with furikake on top, per my latest photo. Meh. I think I'll mix it up next time, and then try stuffed. (My daughter makes a wicked tuna-furikake salad; I just might start with that.)

So far I've mostly made "plain" ones or mixed ones. I can't ever think of a filling I'd like to put in a regular one that would fit in my bento.

Hahahaha! I confiscated the leftover sticky rice from last night's Ono Barbecue dinner and made: mixed (shiso furikake; very good) and stuffed (mango chutney, kind of leaky; reconstituted dried cherry). Real soon now, I'm going to experiment with making other grains cohere like that.

For right now, I prefer plain with sprinkle of furikake and sesame seed.

i'm going stuffed more than mixed. i always keep seasoned canned tuna for a quick -put'em-together: lemon tuna, tomato tuna, dried-tomato tuna; spicy tuna, you name it. seasoned canned sardines too.

I just want to report that:

*Mango chutney is really nice onigiri filling.
*You shouldn't freeze onigiri after you make them; they get all crumbly when they defrost.
