The rice mold that has a heart, start and bear stuck togethor (see pic below) seem to me that it might be possible to function as a egg mold. Who owns this and has anyone tried to use it as an egg mold?

It would work with plastic rubber bands around it until the egg cools off. I think someone did it with ice-cream molds and it appears to have worked well.

I have some similar. I haven't tried it as an egg mold. It might work. Could be worth trying.

ALRIGHT! I tried it and the result are pretty good especially if you cut them open when displaying them in your bentos!
YAY!

Luigi, that is just fabulous! I have the very same set! I'll use this to make too-kawaii deviled eggs ASAP!

The exclamation points are taking over! Make it stop!!

I think your heart eggs are CUTE and I must say ... cuter than the eggs from the real egg molds! How did you do this?

Oh, and Luigi - did star-shaped eggs not work out?

Kate,
Thanks! I don't think they look better than the 'real' egg molds, at least from the pictures I've seen. The rice mold I posted about is slightly different from the rice molds that just had a positive and a negative. This particular mold has a top, bottom and sides all seperate. Its very much like making the onigiri but you just need to gently press the top down and then band it with some rubberbands. I think these makeshift creations looks best when cut (so you don't see the 'chickenpox' - lol)

one more bento fan,
I used a lot of exclamation marks too! I don't own any egg molds (yet) and am lusting for them! So when my experiment worked, I was beyond excited! I only boiled 2-eggs during this trial run. :-) The star does look like it might be harder but its all about getting the right size egg for these I think. :-) I might need to buy smaller eggs for the star shape though. :-) The heart was a too large fit. The bear was just a wee too big okay with the large organic eggs I was using.
mine worked well...
i use all my moLds interchangingLy & they seem to be ok.
it just depends on the size of eggs you use & how tight you can keep them cLosed.
will post pictures next time...
