Hi Stephen, this is no longer the case. I remember many years ago when Yahoo had control, they forced people to have a flickr acct to view any flickr content, but that has been reversed.

I just checked my own stream (which is public) without being logged in and I can see everything.

When printing photos, it would be really nice to select several photos at once (or a whole album), rather than having to fully process each photo one at a time. The printing service for a local camera store does this, it's a lot easier to add everything to print and then select cropping for the whole batch.

Also, the "View cart" link in the main header doesn't seem to connect to the cart - even after adding several photos for printing, that link under Prints is still grayed out showing (0) items.

Currently the background panel where the photos are posted is white. You have considered using a 50% gray so as not to distort the view of the photos and give it more category.

Close the next to useless help forum and also look at replacing the group concept which in my experience has become a joke with inept or no administration leading to images which have no connection to the group subject. I wager that most viewers to a group do not get past the first page. Finally do not allow people to join who have no intentions of posting photos and some with no favourites either, if these people join then delete their accounts. All the above if addressed will in my view improve the flickr experience.

Delete all the free accounts without any images posted. If a person signs up for a free account, do not allow that person to use favorites and comments until that person posts a reasonable amount of images.

When was that? I have always been able to view images marked as "public" on Flickr. I entered the member's Flickr URL and if they had public content, there it was. No need at all to first log in to Flickr.
I myself joined in 2007.

(You needed to be logged in if you wished to see content flagged as "moderate" or "restricted".)

Suggestions re new Notifications page:
1. When user is 1,2,3 etc "load more" pages in, and clicks on a notification and then clicks back to the notification page, it should return to the page the users was at when opening the item...not start all over at the page 1. It is taking too much time to page through to get to where the user had left off.
2. ADD Flickr Moderation Bot to the Notifications dropdown filter so we can quickly sort and get to those that are incorrectly safety labeled, or to correct what the bot erroneously changed.

Please Add the ability to manage share permissions by USER for sets and albums. (and sub items)

I have two sides to my family, and I'd like them to be able to log in (that's more members for Flickr) and only see the albums I choose for them to see. I do not want one side of my family to have access to the other, or certain friend groups to have access to all albums.

The "Family Member" and "Friends" tags are not granular enough, but they would be more useful if I could create more of those tags.

I do not want to have to maintain lists of links for multiple albums and manually track who has been given what link. Plus, a share by user feature would be updated in real time.

This is the only reason I haven't uploaded all of my collections and gone PRO.

Thanks

1. Make the original videos downloadable by NON-owners (i.e. all)
2. Bump up picture size limit up to 400 MB (yes, I have some rather big scans)
3. Made album lists sortable in Organizer and then manually adding picture to an album. Now they're sorted in different ways. That's annoying.
4. Fix search feature in Organizer - non all non-english phrases can be found in descriptions even if they are 100% present

Question related to digital sobriety

I'm admin for several challenge groups and I would like to know if there is a mean to clean rapidly old discussions. We have thousands of discussions which could be removed. Doing it one by one could be discouraging.

Thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. If there is an "easy" solution, It should be shared with all group admins to spare room on the servers and reduce the ecological footprint of Flickr.
If there is no solution, it could be a great idea to create something.

This new "Notifications" seems only to be there for dumbing down the user interface to meet the demands of Smartphones and SmartTablets.

At the least the old and good working "Activity Center" should be kept as an option to choose in the Settings. This Center works perfectly on my Desktop Screen and will be dearly missed.

I work a lot with albums to organise my pictures as I mainly use Flickr for storing pictures (although I’d like to have more time for sharing them and use Flickr more fully). In this sense, some (seemingly) easy technical developments would really save me some time.

a) In the organizer page, under the "Album and collections" view, would it be possible to add an option to sort the albums? e.g. by name (A--Z), by uploaded date..etc.

b) I haven't found a proper, quick way to remove MULTIPLE pictures at the same time from an album. When one is in the batch edit/ organizer, they have to click on each of the pictures they want to remove from the set..and that takes ages (I suspect that there may be a solution already for this problem that I just missed or can’t remember).

c) Camera roll is an amazing view for me, much more friendly than the batch organizer. But there's no chance to filter or arrange the photos, besides on the basis of date. It would really help me to filter pictures by album as in the organizer, so that one could look at the pictures, select them, and delete them with a single click (In the batch organizer you can't really see the pictures).

Hope this is clear and helpful.

I suggest improving the small search bar. As it is now it's behaving erratically.

For example terms entered disappearing before clicking search and the order of letters being typed changing position if the mouse pointer happens to leave the search bar while typing.

It's very easy to bump into the mouse while typing. And I often have do several tries to do a successful search.

It would be great if it worked normally like the google search bar.

make it cheaper and somehow make it faster, on my PC it is clearly by far the slowest site to load, maybe somehow change the cost, I only put one photo on a day, that way at least a hand full of people can fave them, if I put more on no one sees them.
So its about £1 in UK for 7 photos in my case, those who put loads on should pay more.
Interesting to see I renewed my fee automatically at about £55 , I then regretted that setting and cancelled it for next year 2022, but Flickr said are you sure you want to leave next year, you can have it for $18 . . . .BIG difference there,

It is about adding albums to the groups and how to minimize upload traffic on this process.
Instead uploading each item of album, just transfer URL of added album page.
It would be very useful time processing saving for uploader, for Flickr and also for recipient group's viewers. Just to scroll through added album page.
I did not search alike proposition here. So very sorry in advance.

Context:
1) The user is Logged in
2) "Hide your EXIF data" is set to "Yes" in the user's account (privacy) settings. (www.flickr.com/account/privacy/)
In this case, EXIF data of the user's own pictures are shown nevertheless to the user!
This is very confusing: Most users thing that everybody can see the EXIF data of there photos!

Do you have any evidence for that statement? I doubt it's true. Please refer to the research that supports your claim that most people want restrictions about what they can see on their own photos.

Founders pick:

Goal: to increase group activity/participation and utilize the concept of human curation broadly across the Flickr community.

Eligible Groups: Any group with 50 or more members that has been in existence at least 6 months or with 100 or more members that has been in existence at least 3 months.

Current Admin(s) are considered Founders.

In the Group tools section an Admin is given a view of photos from the last 24 hours which does not identify the owners of the photographs. Each day an admin is allowed one pick from this eligible pool of photos. That choice then goes in chronological order into a new pool for the entire group which is called "Founders picks". Think of it as an admin curated gallery for a group.

The winner sees an automated comment on their photo in their activity feed that their photo was chosen as the founders pick of the group for that day (similar to the automated message when one's photo is in Explore).

Phase 2. If broad adoption takes place in groups utilizing this new feature then Flickr runs a version of their Explore algorithm on each day's group winners and creates a secondary tab on their main explore page called "Founder's Picks"

Essentially what Flickr would be doing would be allowing their most active/engaged members to collectively curate an interesting pool of photos across many different genres.

It's important to note that this feature would be entirely voluntary. If a group admin did not want to utilize the feature they would not have to participate. There would also not be any requirement that it be done daily. If an admin was only on once a week they could just add photos on their own schedule, they would just be limited to one pick per 24 hour period.

Admin photographs would not be eligible for the daily pick.

I'd like to see Flickr partner with an Outdoor Navigational App to provide a "Powered By Flickr" means of integrating Photos stored and managed on Flickr with GPS Tracks recorded on the Navigational App.

I'll use an example a couple of Apps that I use - ViewRanger and Outdoor Active.

ViewRanger provide a very basic implementation of the Flickr API which dynamically adds photos to ViewRanger Tracks and displays them on a map. This means I can do all my photo management and metadata on Flickr and then add links within Flickr Albums or Photos to link to ViewRanger to display these on a map and also have access to further data such as GPS Track info (for travel guides etc).

-ViewRanger have however been "eaten" (taken over) by OutdoorActive and is being retired as an independant app and system.

Per ViewRanger support because "the flickr feature is hardly used" it is not being implemented within Outdoor Active and instead Outdoor Active have their own "photo management" which is largely terrible for various reasons.

Given Flickr has a well featured API and does Photo and Metadata management it would be great if Flickr could partner with "Some Outdoor Navigational App" to make full use of this and hopefully make money for all concerned.

The Notification drop down box (Bell) takes far too long to load - which is not too bad if are just checking through but to have to reload more often is just pain and I am not now enjoying the Flickr experience - been a member since 2007 and have more or less enjoyed these 14 yeas - but now ......

I do feel like cancelling my Pro subscription (but having paid good money for a year as a good Yorkshireman I cannot easily justify this action).

For those of us in a lot of groups it can take absolutely ages to scroll down five or six at a time (since that's all that will fit in the popup window) and click each one individually to switch it off.

Thanks.

Bring back 'Recent Activity' like it used to be some months back when it was date sorted and paged, it was far, far better than the awful 'Notifications' page you now have.

+1

And imagine the nightmare when you've been on holiday/vacation for a couple of weeks. Not everyone is glued to their techi stuff 24/7.

After a couple of weeks away from the computer desktop (I don't have an iPad - not everyone does), with this Notifications crap there's no possible way to page back to find out who has been commenting, viewing, faving, invitations to join groups, or inviting to add photos to groups.

No matter how much Flickr tinker with it, New Notifications is NEVER going to be a workable alternative to Recent Activity.

+1 as they went from by viewers to by image. Which hides way too much!
And shutting down threads by users complaining their dislike of the new RA wanting the old RA.

Their answer close thread and point individuals to a non-transparent thread. Dividing group interactions on the issue to breakup and conquer breaking up groups of users interacting into one-way individual closed feedback threads.

When it says “5 views” identify who those 5 are!

You could limit it to 5 or 10!!

Hi, Hank. This is definitely an error on our part - apologies for that. I see that you wrote to our Support Heroes team and that you heard back from Bill. He'll provide more information and we'll work on making sure that this doesn't happen again. Thanks for flagging it to us.

Please make it easier to leave groups. It would be better to have a Tick box next to the group so that I can leave multiple groups at one time rather than one group at a time.

Also displaying my photos I would like more options for the backgrounds and the layout of my pictures.

To be honest and to be fair you did ask for feedback, Flickr is behind the times the graphics look like something from the '90s.

I would like to upload pictures and for a client to look at and approve, I currently do that on a different site. I have enjoyed Flickr for many years but now it's just become backup storage for me.

Need more customisation, please. Thank you..

The ability to rearrange names where the favorites are i.e - Say if you have a friend whom prefers to be the first favorite that you also want to be the first name and misses the chance to get the first favorite you would be able to rearrange the names the way you want instead of first come first serve type thing.

In notifications I get the option to choose Comments or Favs among other things. Surely a check box would work better then I could see Comments AND Favs at the same time??

A POSITIVE SUGGESTION:

To avoid making universally unpopular decisions on changing functionalities, Flick could assemble a group of typical active photographic members and ask them to support or veto any major changes before too much time has be spent on the development.

I would be very surprised if such a group would not specify than any new function should be working faultlessly BEFORE it replaces the existing function or the existing one is degraded (as with "recent activity").

Put the removed really working version of "Recent Activity" under the taco bell. You will be happy and we will be happy.

I asked the Flickr Support Heroes for exactly this option. This is the answer I got:

"Thanks for reaching out to Flickr Support.

I understand you would like to have the ability to select comments and favorites in the New Notifications Center. While this is not currently an option through Flickr, I can definitely understand the desire to see such a feature. I went ahead and forwarded that suggestion on to our Product Development team for consideration as a potential feature to add to Flickr at a later date. We're excited for the future of Flickr.

While I do not have a timeframe for if/when this would be put into effect, they are now aware that this is something that members of Flickr would like to see as an option."

That was almost three months ago, on September 29, 2021. Unfortunately, no modification since then.

I think this is doomed to fail,it's just too reasonable a suggestion.

Recent activity was the best feature on Flickr, giving a summary that was easy to understand. The new information seems like someone’s jottings that have not been organized and are not user friendly. Each photo does have total faves when I (rarely) use my desktop but not iPhone or iPad. I see no need to even use notifications now. .

Is there any way to get the old "recent activity" view back? Why was this good and clear view without need deleted and replaced by the new, completely confusing and slow view? I can not comprehend that.

At the least the old and good working "Activity Center" should be kept as an option to choose in the Settings. This Center works perfectly on my Desktop Screen and will be dearly missed. - I agree!
