What method of upload are you using? What software are you using to prepare your images for uploading?

mcnod:
Thanks for responding.
I took the photo with my Samsung - the photo goes to my OneDrive account. From my iPad I downloaded the photo from OneDrive to my IPad photos. From Flickr website I tap the cloud/up-arrow icon which goes to the ‘drag and drop photos’ or ‘choose photos to upload’. When I click ‘choose photos’ and I then click on ‘photo library’ and choose the photo in question, actual size is, in this case, 11.5mg. When I then ‘add’ it goes to the screen where you can edit and upload, at which time the photo size in this particular case has been reduced to 475 kb.
(PS in the ‘old’ days I would have emailed the photo from my Samsung to my photo stream, but Flickr - Smugmug I believe - took that function away.)

Ok, I have no thoughts (yet) myself, but this description of the path should be helpful to those who might respond.

How are you determining the size of each of the Original photo(s) that are stored on flickr?
I did check the size of my last upload, it is the same as it is stored on my computer. I use flickr's "web uploader" (the cloud with the up arrow).

If I download the photo on Flickr, choosing ‘original size’, the downloaded file is now only 490kb.

In the Uploadr, in a bar near the top, there is an option to upload a small image. Have you made that the default somehow?

Not that I can tell.
I think it may be an iPad issue? I airdropped the original to my Mac, and replaced the photo in Flickr, and now it’s nearer to the original file size.
What a convoluted work-flow....

What a convoluted work-flow... Can't you just upload directly to Flickr? Assuming your "Samsung" is a phone, you could just go to flickr on your web browser and upload.

Thanks for the suggestion - I find the editing tools best in Photos on the iPad but will give it a try

Maybe your iPad is now converting your images stored in Photos to HEIC?
