Price difference for different pro members?

John Tymon says:

Just a quick one I am in the UK and my pro account says when it is renewed in November the cost will be £55 yet a friend who renews at the same time his says $59.99 per year which equates to £43 per year , so why is one being charged at a different rate than another? or am I missing something and why would one UK customer renewal price be shown in $ and another Pro member in the UK be shown in £?

thanks for the help and hope an explanation is forthcoming :)

Ask him how he is connecting to the internet. He may be connecting by a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that uses a US server address so Flickr's servers think he's in the US.

There may also be Value Added Tax and currency conversion factors involved. The US does not have a national VAT.

Just guessing....

if one pays monthly and if one pays yearly there is a difference in the rate. Also some states (countries?) charge tax

I am in Italy, my annual plan is €65,88 per year. We have an expensive VAT.

John Tymon:

As suggested above the price difference is likely because the quoted UK price includes tax while the quoted US price is before tax is added.

There are some cloud based browsers that are a bit like VPNs.

By the way, judging by the icons next to our names, there seems to be two types of PRO: PRO in a box and PRO in flickr blue underlined in flickr red.

There is absolutely no difference except the icon.
You can change the one you use here (on the right of the page, in the Profile section):

Full staff quote:

This. It's a thank you for our long-term Pro members. We released it to folks who were active Pro members a few months ago as a way for old-skool subscribers to show their pride. If you were a paying Pro when we released the badge, look at your Profile section in your account settings and you will see the option to toggle between the old-skool badge and the new.

No word to of the huge increase. I am very sad.
