Spammers taking advantage of abandoned groups

Walt_Felix says:

Anyone else seeing a lot of Off-Topic images (with links to dating/porn sites in their description) in groups where the Admin has stopped participating? Can anything be done to kill those accounts?

Use the "report abuse" link at the bottom of each page, and choose the option for "spam". Spam usually gets zapped fairly quickly after being reported.

Walt_Felix:

You didn't mention the group(s) in which the spammers are spamming. But that's just as well, because apart from removing the spammers from Flickr entirely (which Flickr will do), Flickr will not help out with the management of groups.

What John said above is the right (and only) thing to do.

As a side issue, if you wish to take over an abandoned group, there's a procedure for that, and it starts with you sending a message to Flickr via the Help "Contact us" form, which is here:

The truth is, Flickr is not interested in preventing SPAM. Flickr has not managed to ban the big players, "playstore" and "5hi.fun", in 3 years.

Have you reported them, or do you assume someone else will?

Walt_Felix says:

Yes, I've been reporting them and it looks like those accounts above were removed.

I didn't reference the groups as that was really not the point. I've submitted and taken ownership of several to remove the images and users from those groups.
These spammers upload hundreds of images to each account they created (usually the same images on all) and then just add them to as many groups as they can. Moderated groups, the admins will filter that junk out. Abandoned groups, however, they'll just keep adding images from new phony accounts as they create them.

I did this. More than a year and a half, hundreds every day.

Flickr either ignores it or Flickr is technically unable to prevent it.

Thanks for letting us now about the spam you've encountered specifically within groups.

It is our priority to make your Flickr experience as enjoyable as possible- and spam definitely stands in the way of that.

As some folks have metioned, we encourage members to report spam through the channels outlined here to ensure the report gets to the appropriate team and reviewed in the most timely manner!

Then finally let your words be followed by deeds.
