Groups sorted by # of topics?

mag3737 says:

I sort of gradually noticed that the "Groups you are a member of" section of my Groups (beta) page was always showing the same top 10 groups in the same order, and I wondered about that, because (a) these groups are active and (b) I am in many other active groups also, so it seems like no matter what the sort order is (most recent photo, or most recent post), things ought to be shuffling around a bit from one day to the next.

So I looked more closely, and I see that this section is sorted by number of topics. That sort option is not even available to us (column header not clickable).

Is it a default of some kind? I certainly have sorted that list in the past, but it could have been weeks or months ago, the last time I did. I wonder what triggered the return to this order. Any guesses?
