Seeking...and finding...solitude and peace...

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach...and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

-- Henry David Thoreau

To my new-found friends who have provided, through a passion for photography (and much more, I think), expressions of interest and concern and insight totally unexpected...providing a more optimistic view of our world than previously considered. You have provided renewal and I thank you for being...and sharing.

To a very special few, you have already provided more than you know...a rebirth of faith in the basic good character of people, yet a confirmation that few ever realize the potential one's soul so cries for...or even make the attempt. It is enough to continue to try...

And for all of you:

In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can imagine.

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Treat a work of art like a prince. Let it speak to you first.

-- Arthur Schopenhauer

---------------------------------

If a man stands high in Nature's lists it is natural and inevitable that he should feel solitary. It will be an advantage to him if his surroundings do not interfere with this feeling; for if he has to see many other people who are not of like character with himself, they will exercise a disturbing influence upon him, adverse to his peace of mind; they will rob him, in fact, and give him nothing to compensate for the loss.

-- Arthur Schopenhauer

________

Let each one examine his thoughts, and he will find them all occupied with the past and the future. We scarcely ever think of the present, and if we think of it, it is only to take light from it to arrange the future...So we never live, but we hope to live; and, as we are always preparing to be happy, it is inevitable we should never be so.

--Blaise Pascal

________

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.

-- Henry David Thoreau

Alan has a gift. His every picture is a small part of the sky. He has the gift of being with people too. It is amazing that I've never seen Alan in the real world. I liked him very much. He has a good heart. You can see it in the pictures, descriptions, comments. Thanks for being a good flickr friend of mine.

We are the lucky ones to have discovered the world of Alan’s photos. He has a very keen eye- sharp wit and is very clever - not to mention Creative!!! He takes us places we have never been to before in a way that is most unique through his photographs. There is always a story, sometimes a message, and often dry humor at its best! Alan’s photos are aesthetically pleasing and very well composed! He is talented both in photos that are processed and those who remain virgins and untouched. Thanks Alan for sharing with us...the paths you walk both in mind and in spirit! Many more photos to come!! Diane M Kramer aka She Wolf and the pack!

I have known Alan on Flickr for some time now and have come to think of him as a real friend. It’s great to have a friend with whom you can discuss and debate all aspects of life, those you agree with and those you might not, I like the way he speaks his mind and has definite ideas. His photostream contains the most beautiful pictures of the wonderful part of the world where he lives beside a lake and if you follow his photostream you can see the changing seasons and follow the thoughts of someone totally at home in his environment. I look forward to his comments every day, he’s a reliable friend and that means a great deal in a fast moving world that is constantly changing. There is something very dependable about Alan. Alan, I’ve been meaning to write a few words for ages to say how much I appreciate your friendship here on Flickr and to thank you for being such a good friend through your encouraging words!

Alan's images portray the world around his home, a veritable tribute to nature's perfection and flaws (f there are any at all). The season's are captured as they flow from one to another in grandeur and soon enough one is convinced that this is familiar territory. A place visited before. A place known. If one views his images with intent and looks beyond the obvious then the person behind the camera is slowly revealed, this may take some time. Alan often combines carefully chosen quotes to accompany his images. The combination of words with image like a carefully wrapped gift is presented with thought, humor or even with child-like relish. HIs connection to the natural world and the deep respect he has for it is almost palpable. There is something unique about friendships that flourish on flickr and my friendship with Alan, could only be compared with those persons i have known and felt at ease with for many years. Alan is a loyal flickr contact and his observations and intellect a special treat. From across the ocean i send you best wishes Alan. always

Alan Walden, a photographer who is able to capture in his images all the various and beautiful aspects of nature! His photos are real paintings, they always represent something so quiet and serene! You look at these lovely compositions with those soft and warm colours and they immediately give you a peaceful feeling! He is a big nature lover but not only this...sometimes he wonder us with some of his great creative works, the abstract! But the most attractive images remain, for me, those in which he delights us with the wonderful view in front of his porch : I call it " the magic place near the lake "... Best regards from Italy! Walden is a wonderful photographer. He is also a philosopher. What is special for me is that he manages to embody his philosophical feel for real life in the moment in his photography. Thus his work is not only beautiful, but revelatory of the present moment--which of course is all that we have, the rest having already been or only perhaps to be. I treasure his art as I learn from his wisdom.

Mr. A.Walden; there is something very calm about this man whom I know very little of and there is something very profound and perceptive about his photographs and the meaning he gives them through his words and knowledge. His uploads are very natural and refreshing. Wish you all the best!
