Just a part-time photo grabber... years ago I was more serious about photography and lugged a Nikon SLR and huge camera bag and tripod everywhere.... now, all I have is a point and shoot Canon....which I hope will capture some great shots.... Renewing my passion for the art....

2019... update

I appreciate all the comments and faves... hopefully my creativity is entertaining. I don't just see the world in these images... I try to enhance it. I find it hard to just display reference shots of places and things... to find the essence of a subject is much more rewarding for me...

2011 update... yes, I still have my point and shoots... the old sx100is has been replaced with a sx130is for my carry everywhere camera. I also use a Cannon powershot SX10IS which has a 20x zoom. I feel like the portability of the 130 makes up for the lack of quality... as these new P/S cameras are really getting good. I'm sure national geographic won't be calling.... there is no substitution for great gear. In fact last year I was published (4 images) in "Living Sanibel", by Charles Sobczak... A nature guide to Sanibel & Captiva Islands. www.amazon.com/Living-Sanibel-Nature-Captiva-Islands/dp/0... they were all taken with a P&S.

I met with Charles in Sanibel sometime after the book had been published... and he told me he loved my nature work, but didn't like my photoshop tinkering... a point well taken... as I have been told that several times before from different folks. However, I guess I get bored taking "straight" shots... I really enjoy the unique "spirit" of nature... which then becomes my interpretation of how I see nature. It's not for the purist... its just who I am.

I also write music which can be heard

My type of beastie photographer - and stands out from the crowd by a country mile does Al-ien. Is photography an art or a science? With the advent of digital photography, more and more see it as a science, but that would be a terrible mistake. Al-ien quite obviously views his photography as ART - and all the better for it. Each image has clearly had a lot of thought behind it, and no little skill and flair applied - making a trip through Al-ien's photostream a pleasure, a REAL pleasure - a trip through a really interesting art gallery. A real addition to flickr, and like I've said before - very different from the massed ranks here...
