I travel light with two Sony "mirrorless" cameras in a small bag. One A6400 has a Zeiss 16-70mm and the other A6400 has a Sony 70-350mm telephoto. I'd rather change cameras than lenses. I carry a Sony point-and-shoot HX99 or Ricoh GR III in a pocket. Since early 2018, I also carry an iPhone X with its amazing cameras. I never use a tripod and almost never use a flash. The high ISO performance and optical stabilization system helps to produce clear photos under difficult conditions.

I gather photographs mostly on trips to Europe once or twice a year. I then see what I can do with them with post processing. I use Lightroom to catalog my photos and to dispatch to other programs, like Photoshop. I make use of layers and layer masks in Photoshop.

I try to produce photographs that are realistic and high in detail. I like to photograph patterns of beauty that I see around me. I try to minimize any distractions and to separate the subject from the background. Any composition tips are welcome.

I am happier when I see the world through the eyes of a photographer. Colors and patterns appear that would otherwise be overlooked.

Kim says:

I love traveling virtually with Duane and seeing the world through his eyes. His aesthetic sensibility and thoughtful post-processing work enhance the beauty of his images - and his ability to focus on the odd and quirky aspects of life take his work far beyond the postcard level.

Duane is a talented photographer who has a strong sense of what makes a pleasing image. That statement may seem unacceptably vague, but when someone can communicate aesthetically through subject matter that is largely foreign to me, I can only say that that person "has it"--and I consider that a high compliment. Duane is a talented photographer who has a strong sense of what makes a pleasing image. That statement may seem unacceptably vague, but when someone can communicate aesthetically through subject matter that is largely foreign to me, I can only say that that person "has it"--and I consider that a high compliment. I also value Duane's interest in others' work. He is one of my contacts who makes my Flickr experience more like participating in a community of photographers, as opposed to just uploading photos to a website!
