My photo site is devoted to the animals, mostly my horses, in my life. I like to spend time with them, watching what they do and capturing what I can with my camera. I have a special fondness for Thoroughbreds and own a retired racehorse(Sage).

I have a collage of horse breed that live with me. I own 5 horses of my own: 2 Thouroughbreds (Sage & Beau), 1 NSH (Azure),1BLM Mustang (Jaspar), 1 Paint (Robin) The 2 others that belong to my friends are Sapphire & Chansyk. They both reside with us to fill out our herd.

My buddy icon is of Topaz's eye. She was my first horse. I got her when she was 25 years old and we had 4 fabulous years together. She showed me how much fun horses can be. She passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 29. I am sure Topaz is still watching us.

We live on a 77 acres, mostly a grass seed, farm located in the Pacific Northwest.. The horses have 9 acres to call their own. They share the barn with 2 cats and a dog.

Through the time I have spent on Flickr and the great photographers I have had the pleasure of observing and getting to know, I have begun to study equine photography more. I am branching out a bit and doing a few farm calls and photographs for people at horse related events. I know I don't want to be an event photographer, but I do enjoy working for individuals. I like to capture the connection between people and their horses.

I have also had the opportunity to give back to the community by working at some dog agility events that were fund raisers for various causes. I liked that too. I'm not sure where my photography is headed, but spending time with my horses and camera is something I enjoy.

I am entertained to find out my expression number is 3:

It is comforting to see her photos of her herd; Sage, Beau, Robin and Azure & the gang. Her photography is always improving, partly because she practices ALOT (well who wouldn't if you had all those beautiful models!) and I know she takes courses as well to improve. I'm so glad she's a friend!

Sagetopaz was one of the first people I discovered here on flickr, and I was immediately drawn in by how different and interesting her horse photos are. (just look at my favorites) She likes to look at her horses in a different way, and go beyond the 'deer in the headlights' look, as she puts it. You can tell she loves her animals through her photographs, her sense of humor is always there, and she has some of the most beautiful horses I've to find on flickr. (Personally I think she trained them to do tricks so she can get such great photographs)

Sagetopaz is very curious about the effects of light and observing physiology in motion. She captures so many interesting action shots because she just gets out there and isn't trying to set up the "perfect picture". She enjoys being in the company of her animals and eveything always falls into place on film for her. No stage or makeup required! I think this is also why you can look through her pictures and a significant number of them will give you an emotional reaction. Whether it is a dog shaking water off her back, a horse running in perfect balance and control or a moment of complete and utter chaos, the "realness" of our world and what we have the opportunity to experience is there.
