Fur Trade & Trapping
The fur trade plays a key role in the history of Alberta. The first European settlement in what became the Province of Alberta was related to the fur trade and Hudson's Bay Company forts and factories dotted the landscape for centuries, as did North West Company posts during that company's shorter history. To this day, trappers work across the province and the activity remains a traditional practice of Alberta's First Nations and Métis peoples.
