Red Tail Hawk, Morton Arboretum. October 2009

View the hawk on black

On a small photo walk to the near-by Arboretum during peak(or late) fall colors, my wife and I were taking pictures. Something caught my eye from across the small creek. This hawk had swooped down to trap a mouse. See the other pictures for that shot! The hawk stayed in the area for about 20 minutes and we had our own personal photoshoot. It was quite surreal! Between the size and beauty of the bird and the awesome colors of the leaves it was a perfect 1/2 hour! That is until I ran out of batteries on my 5Dmk2 and had to steal my wife's Xti which did provide a nice extra reach with the 1.6 crop factor with the 70-200 f4L.

Gorgeous isnt it?!
