In response to the growth of suburban malls, the Halifax Planning Department embarked on a detailed survey of ten local "shopping centres" that were really traditional commercial hubs. The analysis resulted in reports for each area that included location, types of commerce, transportation, pedestrian access, "sensory stimuli", retail linkages, problems, opportunities and recommendations, and, of course, photographs to illustrate the report.

These albums contain the photographs for each shopping area. To read the accompanying report for each shopping area, follow this link:https://gencat.eloquent-systems.com/halifax-municipal-archives/permalink.html?key=5026521
