Purrfect Cats
Examples of cat images from the 18th to the 21st centuries illustrate that felines have regularly provided inspiration to artists working in many media. From the deft wash drawing of Hokusai Katsushika and Eadweard Muybridge’s visual analysis of animal locomotion to Arnold Genthe’s documentation of Buzzer the cat, felines have been the subject of visual studies and, in many cases, also wound themselves around the hearts of those who chose to depict them.
