Brockenfeldmoor, 2015
The Brockenfeldmoor is a raised bog, or Hochmoor, in the Harz Mountains. It lies on a saddle at about 800 m above sea-level on the western side of the Brocken, the highest point (1141 m) in the Harz, where it receives plenty of rain from the Atlantic weather systems. The bog seems to be in a more or less pristine condition, with a mosaic of active Sphagnum hummocks and pools. There are not many plant species here, but the majority of them are highly specialized, only found in this acid, boggy, mossy habitat. Photos taken on 31 July 2015.
